Who We Are
“Come… be you, be loved, be filled. Go…be joy, be hope, be love. Be His!”
Gruene United Methodist Church believes we are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Celebratory worship is important to us. We value praising God for who God is; we value children and youth in worship; we value relevant, biblical messages. We want you to be who you are, to feel the love of our congregation and the love of Christ and be filled with His love and grace.
When you leave this place, we want you to spread the love of God to others in any way you feel called to. Reaching out into the community and world in loving-kindness and mission is valued at Gruene UMC. We reach out to others locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are blessed to be a blessing to others.
Gruene UMC was created out of the love and desire to further God’s Kingdom in New Braunfels in 2006 as a daughter congregation of First UMC, New Braunfels. Rev. Karen Horan, founding pastor, was given the task along with about 30 members of the launch team to prayerfully consider what God’s will was for this new congregation. After 7 months of community gatherings, preview services, much prayer and much planning, Gruene UMC launched on September 17, 2006 at Hoffmann Lane Elementary School. Over 130 people attended and God’s presence was felt.
In January 2008, Gruene UMC chartered and became its own entity apart from the parent church. In March 2008, Gruene UMC outgrew Hoffmann Lane Elementary and moved to Canyon High School. On July 12, 2008, we officially broke ground on our 22,000 square foot phase one facility, and had our first worship service in the new facility in November, 2009.
As of 2016, we have around 700 congregants and are growing every day. We recently built a new Youth and Mission Outreach Building (MoTown) that has allowed us to expand our loving reach and the Gospel’s powerful message to our beloved New Braunfels community.
Whether it’s your first time at church or you’ve gone to church for years, our Sunday services are a welcoming place for you to enjoy worshiping Jesus with others. Community makes life better and reminds us that we can’t do life alone.
Our kids are important to us, so we’ve created a place for them to learn about Jesus on their level. Every Sunday, all children (babies through 5th grade) experience safe, age-appropriate environments where the Bible is taught in a creative and relevant way.
Five:32 Student Ministry
Our Student Ministry is where your student (6th – 12th Grade) can belong. Five:32 provides a fun place for students to connect with God, and others to learn how to be leaders of their generation both in the church and world.
At our church, we’re trying to make it easier for you to find people who share your interests. We know that when you get together with people and have fun, you’ll begin to grow into a strong community that serves and grows together.
