Things that Matter
Sermon Series Recap by pastor Dan
I believe for myself and for many, 2020 has been a time of introspection- of taking inventory of what we care about, what our priorities are, and what matters.
I made a list (in no specific order) of things that matter and preached sermons on each theme.
I wonder what your list would look like…
here is my list:
1. Life – John 10:10
2. Church and Community – Matthew 18:20
3. Time – Ecclesiastes 3:11
4. Fruit – Galatians 5:22-23
5. Freedom – John 8:31-32
6. Family – Acts 16:31-33
7. Attitude – Philippians 2:5-8
8. Words – Proverbs 18:21-22
9. Remembering the Saints – Hebrews 11
10. Kindness – Luke 6:35-36
11. Generocity – Ephesians 1-3, and John 10:10
12. Gratefulness – Colossians 2:6-7
I am so thankful for the blessing of being your pastor.
Your love, encouragement, and steadfast faith matters!
God is doing things that matter in and through our community of faith.
We had our first in church baptism in our brand new baptismal font. I was blessed by the chance to officiate the wedding of a couple who fell in love at Gruene and are raising their kids here at our church. A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from the daughter of one of our Gruene Grandmas, expressing gratitude for our livestream ability to ‘go to church’ with her mom every Sunday from Houston.
We continue to help folks in need in our community through Steve’s pantry and Church by the River. This year our church was not able to gather to smoke turkeys together, but we were able to send gift cards with handwritten notes to 88 families in need. We prepared 40 meals for our friends at Church by the River and Family Promise.
Our family continues to pray for and be strengthened by the prayers of our congregation and filled with hope as we trust God, wear masks, wash our hands, and pray about all the things that matter.
We are designing a Christmas ‘Journey’ with online and in person worship experiences for all ages. In the new year we will refocus on what it means to be part of a Church in 2021. We will continue to share the good news, because good news matters… now more than ever.
We are filled with the Hope as we look forward together.
In Christ!
